SALAD: Boring Vegetables or Delicious & Exciting Dish?
Some people love salad and some people could care less about it. I’m a firm believer that those who could care less about it just haven’t been introduced to a flavorful and dynamic salad yet. They’ve perhaps met many salads, probably “house” salads or standard side salads, that are mainly composed of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and croutons. These are not bad salads but I can see why someone would be turned off of salads if this is all they’ve experienced.
You might be asking, what is a salad, then, if not just lettuce and other vegetables? A salad can be anything, as long as it contains mainly natural ingredients (yes, vegetables, but also fruit, nuts, rice, pasta, etc.) with usually one raw ingredient. A salad tends to have a dressing of some sort and is served room temperature or chilled.
So, for those who think salads are boring and not delicious, I suggest trying variations of the “usual” salad—variations that add in a new component, be it crunchy or sweet or unexpected. Explore the possibilities of salads! I promise, salads are incredibly fulfilling to eat and they don’t have to be just lettuce + cucumber + tomato.
